ICA Christmas Musical 2007

Dec.15 & 16,2007 marks a special date to many people who attended the Original Christmas Musical presented by International Christian Assembly (ICA) in North Point, Hong Kong. With a total of four shows, each show is filled with people from all walks of life -- Christians and non-Christians, young and old alike.

The musical is about an ordinary, happy family. The father, Andy is a successful businessman, his wife Alice is a doting home-maker, whose life revolves around her family and their daughter is Chloe.

In the midst of a typical, busy and happy Christmas season, Alice collapses during an evening out with her family. During her stay in the hospital she meets a church caroling group who are there to bring cheer to the patients. Alice ends up sharing her heart with one of the carolers and this changes her life forever. As she pours out her fears and concerns, she learns about the promises that Jesus has for her and she decides to accept Jesus into her life as her personal Lord and saviour.

Unfortunately, the medical tests revealed that Alice is seriously ill and her health deteriorates drastically thereafter. As life and strength drains from Alice, she feels an urgency to share with her husband the message of salvation and new life, which she does with her final breath and passes on.

In the years that follow, Andy continues to care for his daughter Chloe. He does this in the only way he knows how to, which is to spend all of his time and energy working hard so that he can provide a comfortable life for his daughter. However, that was not what Chloe needed most. The death of her mom leaves a void in Chloe's life and she feels lonely and dejected as her relationship with her father becomes increasingly distant.

On her 16th birthday, Chloe feels the weight of emptiness and thinks about the reason for living. At this time, a close Christian friend invites her to church and introduces her to Jesus. During the same period, her father, who has reached the height of his career, also begins to feel the emptiness of being "at the top" and begins to think that there must be more to life. He then receives a note from Chloe in which she shares her new found life, hope and purpose through Christ. Chloe urges her father to allow himself the opportunity to hear about this new life by the simple act of going to church.

Andy listens to his daughter and whilst sitting in the church services, the message speaks to his heart and it dawns on him that it was the very message that his wife had tried to convey to him with such urgency during her last breath. With much joy, he surrenders his life to Jesus and embraces his new found peace and joy. Andy is reconciled with Chloe and they stand as testimony of God's promise, "Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved - you and your household", Acts 16:31.

Despite the 3 months rehearsal, all our effort was worthwhile as we see many people came to accept Jesus as their personal Lord and Savior. Over five hundred people responded that they would like to know more about Christianity. I'm sure many people were touched by the message. As a matter of fact, we received many positive response such as "When will the next musical be ?". One of my invited guests commented that the "Musical ticket is worth HK$300". Many of my invited guest said that they can't stop their tears from flowing.

I'd like to share this song "The Reason for my Being" sung by one of my favorite singer in ICA church -- Miss Victoria Chan. Hope you enjoy listening to this new song as much as I do.

Here's the lyrics of the song "Reason For My Being" :
[ Composed by : Adrian Huen / Arranged by : Martin Lai ]

I've been looking for a reason
To live and to believe in
The reason for my being
The reason for my dream

The time I got to know him
He taught me with his love
Showed me what true love is
Touched me in my soul

And I know, my hopes and dreams have found a home
And my life, this time can be made whole

He gives me the reason to believe
He gives me the reason to forgive
In every moment I need him
I know he'll be there
He's the reason for my being

The moment he told me that he loved me
The moment he told me that he cared for me
In every moment I need him
I know He'll be there
He's the reason for my being
The reason for my being

5 Love Languages

I was assigned to facilitate the topic about "5 Love Languages" by Gary Chapman in our homegroup today.

In case you don't know what this "5 Love Languages" is all about, here they are :
a) Words of affirmation
b) Quality time
c) Receiving gifts
d) Physical touch
e) Acts of service

As quoted by Gary Chapman in his book : "The 5 Love Languages" --- Once you identify and learn to speak your spouse's primary love language, I believe that you will have discovered the key to a long-lasting, loving marriage Love need not evaporate after the wedding, but inorder to keep it alive most of us will have to put forth the effort to learn a secondary love language. We cannot reply on our native tongue if our spouse does not understand it. If we want him/her to feel the love we are trying to communicate, we must express it in his or her primary love language.

If you have any successful appplication of the 5 love languages in your life, we are more than happy to hear from you !
